From the Principal

October 6, 2011

Dear Parents and Guardians,

My name is Dr. Monique L. Means, and I am the new Principal at Kolb Middle School. I have been employed with the Rialto Unified School District for 16 years. I have taught English at the middle school and high school level, I have served as a high school Activities Director, and most recently served 5 years as an Assistant Principal for the largest High School in Rialto. I am excited to begin this new journey as Principal of Kolb Middle School.

Kolb was very successful with their academic growth of 33 points last year on the California State Tests; I intend to continue with the established instructional focus with minimal adjustment. One of my major goals is to make the transition from middle school to high school successful, as 9th graders have the highest drop out rate. During second semester we will focus on High School Preparedness for our 8th grade students.

Another focus area is to increase the use of technology including making our school web page (Echalk) a primary means of communication for parents and students. By the start of second semester, parents will be able to access each of their child’s teachers and have a clear understanding of what is going on in the classroom. Through Echalk parents can also email teachers and check their child’s grade.

Finally, I personally invite you to get involved at our School. Please attend School Site Council, English Learner Advisory Council, PTSA, be a parent volunteer, or become an Athletic team mom for our athletic programs. I believe our students are most successful when we approach their education, social development and overall well-being together.

I am excited about this school year, and many more to come.

Sincerely,

Dr. Monique L. Means, Principal
